Cecilia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Abel Paul LaPorte, 83, who passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at St. Martin Hospital.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday and continue on Saturday at 7:00 am until 9:30 am.
A rosary will be prayed by Deacon Ken Soignier at 7:00 pm on Friday.
Rev. Gregory Cormier will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be his granddaughters, Brandi Patin and Ashley Stelly. Gift bearers will be all of his great grandchildren.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia.
Abel was born April 15, 1936. He honorably served in the United States Army. Abel was a simple man and a hard worker. He enjoyed listening to Cajun French music, watching westerns and WWE, playing card games, and drinking Miller Lite. He also loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his daughters, Sharon LaPorte (Rod) and Beverly Kilgo (Wade); son, Kevin J. LaPorte (Tracie); sisters, Melba Hebert (Don) and Shirley Michaels; grandchildren, Brandi Patin (Bo) and Ashley Stelly (Matt); great grandchildren, Arlei Patin, Mason Patin, Cane Stelly, and Austyn Stelly; and son-in-law, Michael Fitzgerald.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph C. and Lydia Roy LaPorte; brothers, Cyprien LaPorte and Frank LaPorte; and sisters, Mildred L. Clegg Taylor and Lita Mae Haggard.
Pallbearers will be Bo Patin, Matt Stelly, Wade Kilgo, Paul Courville, Lee Thevenet, and Tommy Guidry.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin J. LaPorte, William Kilgo, and Harold Artigue.
A special thanks to Dr. Grace and Dr. Giullory, the nursing staff and medical team at St. Martin Hospital for the attention, support and compassion given during Abel’s final days. The appreciation is immeasurable.
To the staff at St. Agnes and his special friends, Terry Davis and Ametra Joseph, thanks for always watching over him and making him smile. His memories at St. Agnes will always be cherished.
