Sid's Auto Repair was Al's work life for more than 45 years. Al worked with his father, Sidney (Sid) and brother, Earl and next door to his brother, SJ at Sid's Radiator. Upon his dad's retirement, Al & Earl bought the shop and ran it until their retirement.
Al was a passionate hunter, spending many years hunting at the camp on Whiskey Bay with his brothers, nephews and friends. In later years his favorite hunting spot was in San Saba, Texas hunting with his old buddies and his pal, Randy Booth.
The summers he spent on Grand Isle with his family was his ultimate prize. He loved fishing for specs, crabbing and just sitting on the beach with a cold beer and a shot of Jim Beam in hand. His greatest joy was teaching his grandchildren, Lane and Luke, how to set up and run the crab line and then just sit and watch.
Joni was the love of his life. Their journey included camping, traveling and raising a loving family. A special memory was a road trip that he and Joni and his two brothers and their wives took, traveling over 4500 miles to Albuquerque, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and Pagosa Springs, Colorado. In search of a white Christmas, in both 2016 and 2023, they spent Christmas in Pagosa Springs with 15 family members and friends.
Al had many favorite things throughout his life, but the sun rose and set on Birdie, "the son he never had", Lane "Lulu" who, every time she saw him, sat on his lap for a special hello/cuddle and Luke who, on their daily morning calls, was called, among many, "little boy", cowboy" or "pecan head".
On any given weekend you could find him sitting at "The Camp", his outdoor kitchen, holding court over the festivities which were frequent and always crazy. And everyone knew that upon arrival, the first thing you did was go right to him, shake his hand if you were a male, or kiss and hug him if you were a female. Failing to do so was not an option.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joni G. Guidry; his daughter, Birdie Guidry LeGrand; his granddaughter, Lane Mary LeGrand (Kale Guidry); and his grandson, Luke Ray Dillard; his brothers, S.J. Guidry (Mary) and Earl M. Guidry (Barbara); his in-laws, Harold J. Guidry, II (Susan), Helene Guidry Harrison (Peyton), Wendy Guidry Angelle and Andres P. Guidry; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews and friends that he considered family; and his fur baby, Sassy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Moise Guidry and Lena Angelle Guidry; his in-laws, Harold J. Guidry, Sr. and Jeri Brasseaux Guidry; his son-in-law, Jonas LeGrand; his brother-in-law, Ji Lester Angelle; and his great-niece, Isley Thibodeaux.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to a charity of your choice. A few of our favorites... American Heart Association, American Kidney Fund, Best Friends Animal Society and M.A.D.D.
Joni wants to thank Dr. Warren Degatur and his staff for years of compassionate care, as well as Drs. Gus Ingraldi, Michael Liu and John Higginbotham.
A good family friend summed it up perfectly: "He was the rock of the family who took everyone under his wing and treated them as his own. He will always be everyone's favorite "Man"."
Pallbearers will be Drake and Ethan Wiltz, Cory and Brison LeBlanc and Keber and Kasey Guidry.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Luke Ray Dillard, Pierce Angelle, Jackson Kidder and SJ and Earl Guidry.
