St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Albert Joseph Batiste, Jr., 78, who passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2015.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7:00 am until 10:00 am on Saturday, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville. A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 am on Saturday.
Rev. Michael Sucharski will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Mr. Batiste worked at Levert-St. John for 44 years and the Bayou Teche Potato Factory for over 20 years.
He was a member of the Goodwill Mutual Aid Association and the Union Benevolent Society. As a pastime enjoyed gardening, making a boucherie, and playing cards with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Anthony and husband Clifford, Christine Batiste, and Debra Batiste, all of St. Martinville; his sons, Joseph Batiste, Sr. and wife Sherita, David Batiste, Sr. and wife Olina, Stephen Batiste and wife Monica, all of St. Martinville; granddaughter, Tinesha Mitchell and husband Ray Allen of St. Martinville; 18 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and one on-the-way; brothers, Steven Batiste, Sr. and wife Menda, Harry Batiste and wife Mary Alice, Robert Batiste, Felton Batiste and wife Pauline, and Allen Batiste and wife Genevieve; his sisters, Eula Mae Batiste, Charlene Batiste, Thelma Batiste, and Hilda Batiste.
He was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy May Batiste; a daughter, Alberta Batiste; his parents, Albert Batiste, Sr. and Emma Jones Batiste; brothers, Jeffery Mitchell and Dalton Batiste; brothers-in-law, Albert Durand, Paul Michael, Sidney Michael, and Bobby Price; sisters-in-law, Agnes Mitchell, Maggie Michael, and Mary Ann Price; mother-in-law, Agnes Jones Michael; and father-in-law, Walter Michael, Sr..
Pallbearers will be Joseph Batiste Sr., Stephen Batiste, Paul Batiste, Walter Anthony, Clifford Anthony Jr., Willie Batiste, David Batiste Jr., Quinton Batiste, and Kealin Batiste.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wilbert Durand, Randy Jacob Jr., Mathaniel Batiste, Roydell Batiste, Alton Batiste, Joseph Durand, Robert Price, Corlus Batiste, Timmy Mitchell Sr., Ronald Batiste, Clifford Anthony Sr., Lance Batiste, Travis Benjamin, and Jermaine Batiste.
