Albert John Pisani was born on July 12, 1944 to the late Rose Mae Robicheaux Pisani and James Lawrence Pisani, Sr. He served in the United States Naval Construction as a Seabee, and was an auto mechanic for over 50 years. He owned Pisani's Auto Service, where loved the work he did, and all of the people he met, especially the group of "elderly" ladies whom he took care of for many years.
Al coached a softball team for years for his brother Ricky and his friends.
Al loved to cook, especially soup, which he said was the best, teasing his brothers, James and Ricky. The kids always called to see what Poppa was cooking for Sunday dinner, and sometimes put in their orders. All the kids came over on Sundays, and Al looked forward to it all week. He especially loved Sunday Saints games, when he wore "Poppas Saints Uniform" (a special shirt and shorts), and he would wave a little American Flag every time a touchdown was made.
Al's greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his three granddaughters, Adrianna, Grace, and Amelia (who runs the show!). Their Poppa was everything to them, and he loved spoiling them. Poppa spent many days with his girls outside on the swing, talking to them for hours and just watching them play.
Al was a man who lived his life for his family, always putting them first and asking for nothing in return. His love for his family was beyond anything imaginable. He will be missed and loved always.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Jacqueline "Tickie" Gilmore Pisani; son, Toby Pisani and wife Nancy of St. Martinville; daughter, Alicia Stein and husband Ed of Lafayette; three granddaughters, Adrianna Gabriella Pisani, Grace Ella Stein, and Amelia Clare Stein; brothers, Ricky Pisani and wife Netsy of New Iberia, Theodore "Teddy" Pisani and wife Myra of Woodville, MS, James "Bobby" Pisani, Jr. of New Iberia, and Michael Pisani and wife Denise of Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews and godchildren who loved him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jarrett Paul Pisani; sisters-in-law, Jackie Pisani and Barbara Guidry Pisani; and a godchild, Caroline Pisani.
Pallbearers will be Toby Pisani, Cully Guidry, Brad Pisani, Roger Pisani, Charles "Chuck" Pisani, and Jason Legnon.
Honorary pallbearers are Ricky Pisani, Theodore "Teddy" Pisani, James "Bobby" Pisani Jr., Edward Stein, and Ted Legnon.
Special thanks go out to the staff at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for the care and compassion given to Al and his family; we have never gotten so many hugs from doctors and nurses! We would also like to thank Dr. Koichi Takashashi, also known as "Dr. T." He took care of Al from day one and tried everything available in study programs, and made sure Al got in. He gave the ultimate compliment when he told the family that he "loved Mr. Pisani." This man is the reason that we need to donate to cancer research. Please consider sending memorial contributions to American Cancer Society, 1604 W. Pinhook Rd. Ste 182, Lafayette, LA 70508-3733.
Last, but certainly not least, we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our daughter-in-law, Nancy. We don't know what we would have done without her. She was with Poppa so much, running him to Houston and staying with him that everyone thought she was his wife! She finally had to get a shirt that says, "I'm the daughter-in-law!" So thanks to our daughter, Nancy.
We appreciate all of the help and prayers that have been given to us in our time of need.
