New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00 PM Monday, March 11, 2013 at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Alfred 'Benny' Granger, Jr., 90, who died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Charles Langlois will be the Celebrant, and Rev. Darren Eldridge will Con-Celebrate.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 5:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday from 8:00 AM until 2:30 PM.
Born on November 1, 1922 in Loreauville, Benny was a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, paren, grandfather, great grandfather, and a businessman. A story teller and joker, he proudly served our country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, and was a former KANE Radio Farm News Director. He served as chairman of St. Peter's Parish Blood Drives, St. Peter's Vigilante, and was a Past Grand Knight. Benny participated in several fundraisers and was a supporter of countless Catholic and civic causes.
His outstanding moments included the day that he and his beloved wife, Gloria, received the Bishop's Service Medal in 1981, and making five holes-in-one over a lifetime of playing golf.
He is survived by his son, Edward J. Granger and wife Elizabeth of New Iberia; sister, Doris Prados of Loreauville; grandsons, Ben Granger and wife Lindsey of Breaux Bridge, John Granger and wife DeAnna of Yuma, Arizona, Dave Granger of New Iberia; great grandchildren, Ashton Bozarth, Benjamin Granger, Jr., Jared Granger, and Leigh Katherine Granger; special friends, Claudia Bienvenu, Therese Broussard, and Freida LaFont.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Gloria LeBlanc Granger; parents, Alfred Granger, Sr. and Sidonia Gonsoulin Granger; brothers, Walter Granger, Francis Granger, Warren Granger, Ronald Granger; sisters, Mae Ransonet, Odette Louviere, Maude Granger, and Velma Gondron.
Pallbearers will be Ben Granger, John Granger, Dave Granger, Alfred Todd Landry, Randy Ransonet, John Prados, Jr., and Gerard Gondron.
Honorary pallbearers include Cyril Verret, Denis Romero, Paul Crochet, Art Suberbielle, Tom Beyt, Pinky Hebert, Charles Berard, Jr., Walter Scott, Sr., Pat Bienvenu, and Mark Viator.
The family would like to give special thanks to Drs. Matta, Gupta, Kitikula, the 2nd Floor Staff, and the ICU Staff at Iberia Medical Center for their compassionate and professional care.
