Parks - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Thursday, February 2, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks, for Alfred Joseph Potier, 73, who passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Fr. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Kayla Sonnier and Mike Huval. Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville. Mr. Potier was a graduate of Cathedral High School and Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now U.L. of Lafayette), and was retired from the St. Martin Parish Health Unit, where he worked as the Parish Sanitarian. He was a lifelong resident of Parks and parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a former Grand Knight for the Parks Council of Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Louisiana Lions Club, Louisiana Cattlemens Association, and the Louisiana Environmental Health Association. Mr. Potier was a proud supporter and an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints. Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Bernard and her husband, Peter, of Mountain Home, TX, and Lisa Broussard and her husband, Chris, of New Iberia; his son, Martin Potier and his wife, Kelly, of Butte LaRose; one brother, Ben Potier of Parks; three sisters, Frances Waguespack of Parks, Sue Davis of Fullerton CA, and Marcelle Hill of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Jake and Jonah Broussard, and Kade Stutes; and a nephew, Clifford Frederick, Jr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lou Anna Latiolais Potier; and his parents, Marcel and Yuline Hebert Potier. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 12 noon until 10 p.m. on Wednesday and continue on Thursday at 8 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Jake Broussard, Jonah Broussard, Kade Stutes, Benjamin Potier, Jr., Christopher Potier, and Joe Sonnier.
