Cecilia - Alice Hebert Cormier, age 88, a resident of Cecilia, passed peacefully at her home Monday, July 6, 2020. She was born in December 1931 in Jeanerette and graduated from St. Joseph’s School in Jeanerette. She received her nursing degree from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans and interned with Margaret Hauge Maternity Hospital in New Jersey. After graduation, Alice worked as a nurse at DePaul Sanitorium in New Orleans, Baton Rouge General Hospital, Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia, and St. Paul’s Hospital in Breaux Bridge before taking a position with the St. Martin Public Health Unit in Cecilia, from which she retired after 20 years.
Alice was active in the Cecilia community and received recognition for her work in helping the relocated families from Vietnam. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she also served as Lector and Lay Minister, a member of the Parish Council and a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She enjoyed reading books, visiting botanical gardens and historical sites, taking relaxing trips to the beach, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, parents Ira and Anna Gerami Hebert, and brother Ira Hebert, Jr.
She is survived by her son Glen Cormier (Emelise), daughter Yvonne Cameron (David), grandchildren Kevin Cormier (Wendy), Jacob Cormier, Corinne Duplan (Nick), Ira Cameron (Christie), Steven Cameron and Robert Cameron, and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia on Saturday, July 11, 2020 from 9:00 am, followed by a rosary at 9:30 am and a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am celebrated by Father Gregory Cormier.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia.
