Catahoula- A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 12, 2024, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula for Allen J. Blanchard, 72, who passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on April 7, 2024.
Rev. Bill Melancon will officiate the memorial mass. Readers will be Kinsley Garritt and Marcy Blanchard. His daughter, Kayla Blanchard Garritt will read a Eulogy before mass.
Inurnment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Catahoula.
Allen was born on May 2, 1951, in St. Martinville. He was the proud owner of Lakeside Grocery & Deli for over 20 years. His famous creation, the "MAC Allen" burger, will always be remembered as the best burger in town for those who had the pleasure of tasting it. Allen had a passion for cooking, fishing, and being with family.
Throughout his life, Allen was known for his dedication to his family. A simple and selfless man, Allen's caring nature was evident in the exceptional love and care he provided for his children, especially his son, Casey. He also held a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, "Poule." Allen's kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his children, Cory Blanchard (Marcy), Kayla Blanchard Garritt (Rickie) and Casey Blanchard; one grandchild, Cole Blanchard; step grandchildren, Seth Thibodeaux, Christopher Bergeron, Taylor Garritt (Caroline) and Hannah Garritt; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Garritt, Braxton Bergeron, and Vivian Garritt; siblings, Marshall Blanchard (Patsy), Carol Blanchard (Mary), Lillian Suire (Wilton "Ki Ni") and Evelyn Barras (James "T-Boy"); brother-in-law, Timmy Huval; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Miranda Perioux Blanchard; parents, Olden and Bernice Latiolais Blanchard; and one sister, Annette Huval.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana, especially to nurses, Alyson Champagne and Carol Jackson and his oncologist, Dr. Mhadgut and staff for the personalized care Allen received. Also, a special thanks to his family and friends who were so supportive and caring during his time in need.
