Coteau - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, March 12, 2018, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau for Althea Gaspard, 83, who passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Sunday, and will continue on Monday from 8:00 am until 10:30 am. A rosary will be prayed at 5:00 pm on Sunday. Rev. Brian Harrington will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery in Coteau. A lifeling resident of Coteau, Althea Maturin Gaspard was born on August 8, 1934 to the late Gilbert and Anaise Gary Maturin. She worked in the cafeteria at Coteau Elementary for many years. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, cooking, sewing, and spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Lovelace Gaspard; sons, Mickey Gaspard and wife Debbie, and Minace Gaspard; daughters, Peggy Landry and husband Gabriel, and Pearly Romero and companion Sexon Labit, Jr., all of New Iberia; grandchildren, Kristi Gaspard, Cody Gaspard, Dylan Gaspard, Erica Derouen, Hanna Gaspard, Sam Gaspard, and Connor Gaspard; 15 great-grandchildren; and her fur baby, T-Boy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Rita Migues, Edna Touchet, and Alice Dore; and brothers, Jules and Anatol "P.T." Maturin. Pallbearers will be Mickey Gaspard, Minace Gaspard, Cody Gaspard, Dylan Gaspard, Sexon Labit, Jr., and Evan Maturin. Honorary pallbearers are Leroy Romero and Roger Dale.
