Parks - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, on Monday, June 17, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks, for Alton "TePoon" Joseph Champagne, 82, who passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at his residence. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 16, 2013, and continue at 7:00 am until 9:15 am on Monday, June 17th, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge. A rosary will be led at 5:00 pm on Sunday by Fr. Chester Arceneaux. Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by ;Mike "Pete" ;Huval ;and Al Blanchard. Gift Bearers will be his six granddaughters. Music will be provided by Pope, Ade, Laura and Forrest Huval and Al Berard. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Alton, better known as 'TePoon' to his family and friends, was born on May 24, 1931 in Parks, Louisiana. He served his country in the Louisiana National Guard from 1948 until his honorable discharge in 1963. He was the owner and operator of Champagnes Grocery in Parks for many years, while also working for the St. Martin Parish School Board as a Bus Driver. Although he kept busy with both careers, Altons passion was agricultural, cattle and horse farming. He enjoyed horseback riding and was a member of the Quarter Horse Association and the Teche Riders. A devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks, Alton served as an Usher for numerous years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His life revolved around his wife, children, and his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. His love for his family was unconditional. He was loving, kind-hearted, strong, and a good person. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and the community of Parks. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Nita Huval Champagne of Parks; two sons, Russ Champagne and Adam Champagne and his wife, Mel, all of Breaux Bridge; three daughters, Lucy Lissard and her husband, Chris, of New Iberia, Sister Mavis Champagne, OLS, of Alexandria, and Helen Blanchard and her husband, Shawn, of Parks; two brothers, Albert Champagne and his wife, Lou, of St. Martinville, and Adley Champagne and his wife, Patsy, of Parks; one sister Ethel Huval and her husband, Bill, of Parks; nine grandchildren, Emily C. Lancon and her husband, Zac, Marie Champagne, Ross Champagne, Annie Champagne, Claire Champagne, Ava Blanchard, Ben Lissard, Joe Lissard, and Mary Lissard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arista Joseph Champagne and Melanie Douet Champagne; and three nephews, Marc Champagne, Jonathon Huval, and Dave Huval. Pallbearers will be Russ Champagne, Adam Champagne, Chris Lissard, Shawn Blanchard, Ross Champagne, Ben Lissard, Joe Lissard, and Zac Lancon. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Champagne, Adley Champagne, Bill Huval, Pat Huval, and Pope Huval.
