Alton Champagne

St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, July 23, 2012, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Alton Joseph Champagne, 64, who passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Lafayette. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 1:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2012 and continue on Monday at 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Rusty P. Richard, will officiate at the funeral mass. Paige Poirier and Crystal Champagne will proclaim the readings . Serving as gift bearers are his nieces and nephew. Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville. Alton was a member of Woodmen of the World, The Arc of St. Martin and St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church and also served as an usher. Alton loved listening to French music, fishing and rocking in his rocker on his front porch and inside the house. Survivors include his sister, Linda (Roy) Champagne of St. Martinville; his nieces, Crystal Champagne, Tina Poirier both of St. Martinville, and Tammy (Danny) Boudreaux of Parks; his nephew, Wilbert Escagne, Jr. of New Iberia; and his great nieces, Cammie Poirier, Siera Boudreaux, Paige Poirier, Brent Boudreaux and Sumer Poirier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Jeanette Pitre Champagne; and his sister, Billy Joyce Escagne. Pallbearers will be Danny Boudreaux, Brent Boudreaux, Keith Poirier, Ryan Owens, Evan Castille and Tubby Stevens. Honorary pallbearers will be Nolan 'Boo' Champagne and Wilbert Escoyne, Jr. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
