New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Alton Joseph Gaspard, 75, who passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016, in New Iberia. A gathering of family and friends will be Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday, and continue on Thursday at 8:00 AM until 12:15 PM. A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 AM on Thursday. Rev. Keith Landry will be the Celebrant. Entombment will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Patoutville. Alton Joseph Gaspard was born in Erath, LA on March 11, 1941 to the late Oday and Lucia Pommier Gaspard. He was a longtime resident of New Iberia, and retired from Morton Salt in 1998 after 37 years of service. He enjoyed drinking coffee, talking to people and making friends everywhere he went. He loved to help people; he looked out for everybody but himself. He attended St. Nicholas Catholic Church for many years, and enjoyed camping and fishing in his younger years. Alton is survived by a son, Teddy Gaspard and wife Janet of New Iberia, LA; two daughters, Claudette Theresa Gaspard of New Iberia, and Karen Ann Gaspard of Opelousas; three brothers, Preston and Carroll Gaspard of Patterson, and Thomas Gaspard of Breaux Bridge; three sisters, Willa Faulk and husband Buford of New Iberia, Dorothy Boutte of St. Martinville, and Louise Marie Bodin of Abita Springs; five grandchildren, Jacob Gaspard, Joshua Gaspard and wife Kristy, Austin Gaspard, Logan Gaspard, and Annie Gaspard; and three great-grandchildren, Khloe, Kade, and Karli. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Derouen Gaspard; three brothers, Roland, Johnny, and Jimmy Gaspard; and a sister, Darlene Romero. Pallbearers will be Jacob Gaspard, Joshua Gaspard, Austin Gaspard, Logan Gaspard, Wilbert Eskine, Jr., and Kevin Guilbeau. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Doctors Robert Hankenhof, Clyde Roy, Eugene Achi, and Leslie Greco, and Iberia Medical Center ICU nurses Stephanie and Lisa for exceptional care.
