St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, November 30, 2009, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Alton "White" Joseph Oubre, Sr., 77, who passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at his residence in St. Martinville. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. Monsignor Keith Derouen will conduct the services. Reader will be ;Chelsie Currier. Gift Bearers will be his grandchildren. Mr. Oubre was a hard worker who provided for his family on a daily basis. He served his country in the Korean War and was married to the love of his life, Barbara, for 55 years. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Theriot Oubre of St. Martinville; his sons, Alton Oubre Jr. and his wife, Sharon and Mark Oubre all of St. Martinville; his daughters, Juliette "Pulette" Oubre Boudreaux, Louisette Oubre Hulin and her husband, Harold, and Linda Oubre Currier and her husband, Randy all of St. Martinville; his twin brother, Allen Oubre and his wife, Ethel and his brother, Murphy Oubre and his wife, Gladys all of St. Martinville; his sisters, Doris Decoux and Mildred "Penny" Langlinais both of St. Martinville; his grandchildren, Lanie Boudreaux, Courtney Boudreaux, Cody Hulin, Chelsie Currier, Jordy Currier, Anne Michelle Oubre, and Jeffery Oubre; his step grandchildren, Annette Landry and Catrina Dworaczyk; and his great grandchildren, Cameron Hulin, Alyssa Hulin and Addison Dupuis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Louise Boutte Oubre; his father in law, Charles Theriot, Sr. and his brothers in law, Ramsey Theriot, Ned Decoux and Hugh Langlinais. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2009 ;and continue at 7:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Monday. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Pallbearers will be Alton Oubre, Jr., Mark Oubre, Roland Talley, Harold Hulin, Cody Hulin and Jordan Currier. Honorary pallbearers will be his two brothers, Allen and Murphy Oubre. The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers, Peggy Jones Blanchard, Gina Douet and Alice Butler. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
