New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Alton A. Segura, 101, who passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM. A rosary will be prayed at 1:00 PM Thursday.
A native of Loreauville, Mr. Segura was born on February 5, 1916 to the late Fernest and Constance Molbert Segura. He started working at his uncle's grocery store at an early age and developed a passion for working. Mr. Segura was a graduate, one of thirteen, of Loreauville High School, and attended business school in Missouri. He began working for Berard Brothers and then joined the United States Coast Guard, during World War II, being stationed in Miami. After the war, Mr. Segura returned to New Iberia where he established of A & A Appliance Center. He enjoyed fishing and traveling.
Survivors include a sister, Gussie Broussard of New Iberia; sister-in-law, Rita Segura of New Iberia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and wife, Cecile Hebert Segura, brothers, Lewis "Cook" Segura, Clenie "Can" Segura, Harold Segura, Lloyd Segura, Eugene Segura, and a sister, Jenny Decuir.
Pallbearers will be Robert Segura, David Decuir, Ken Segura, Eugene Segura, Glenn LeBlanc, and Charles Clement.
Honorary pallbearer will be Kim Decuir.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Carl Ditch, Dr. Burt Bujard, the staff of Belle Teche Nursing Home, Tara Vincent and other caregivers, and the staff of A & A Appliance Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
