Cecilia, Louisiana - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Alton "White" Melancon, 91, who passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, at his residence. 

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Cecilia on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 12:45 PM. 

A rosary will be prayed at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, by Marella Theriot. 

Rev. Joseph Brasseaux will officiate at the Funeral Mass and assisting will be Deacon Ken Soiginer.  Reader will be Deb Arabie.

Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. 

Alton "White" Melancon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, was born in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana on December 12, 1932.

Throughout his life, Alton spent 30 fulfilling years as a roustabout in the dredging industry, showcasing his strong work ethic and commitment. Additionally, he managed three Fina Service Stations for several years, demonstrating his leadership skills and ability to excel in different roles. Notably, Alton also shared many memorable moments crawfishing alongside his wife, Alice, reflecting their strong bond and shared love for adventure.

Those who knew Alton will always remember him with a cigar in hand, eager to engage in conversations with anyone he met. His outgoing nature and friendly demeanor left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. Alton's love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies of fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending quality time with family and friends. His genuine interest in nature's beauty reflected his appreciation for life's simple pleasures.

Described as a hard worker with a heart of gold, Alton will forever be loved and cherished by his family. 

In honoring the memory of Alton "White" Melancon, let us remember his zest for life, his love for nature, and his warm spirit that touched the lives of many.

He is survived by his sons, Jessie (Deb Arabie) Melancon, Mike (Lisa Guidry) Melancon, and Wilbert "Su'dee" Melancon; daughters, Leanna (Donnie) Giarratano and Mary (John) Taylor, Sr.; and his grandchildren, Angelia, Tammy, Josh, AJ, Tonya, Jay, Mike Jr., Christina, Hunter, Fabian, Bryan, Erik, John Jr., Andy, and Lyle. 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Credeur Melancon; parents, Wilbert and Linda Steward Melancon; son, Charles Ray Melancon; and his siblings, Dutille, Harris, Gussie, Marie, and Murley Melancon.

Pallbearers will be Josh Frishberg, Hunter Guidry, John Taylor, Jr., Willie Melancon, Marty Robert, and Shane Robert. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Acadiana for their care, love, and compassion that was given to our Dad.
