Alvin Bonin

Catahoula - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 :00 a.m. , on Saturday, July 24, 2010 , at St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula, for Alvin John Bonin, 91, who passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Louisiana Extended Care Hospital in Lafayette . Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Catahoula. Father Richard Fabre will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Karina Bonin. Mr. Bonin was retired after working for 30 years in the oilfield business. Alvin enjoyed working in his yard and around his home. He acquired a passion for wood spackling and spent much of his free time looking for distressed wood in order for him to restore into a newly finished creation. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Maria T. Bonin, of Catahoula; two sons, Eric Bonin and his wife, Linda, of St. Martinville, and Glenn Bonin and his wife, Debra, of Lake Jackson , TX ; four grandchildren, Tami B. Castex, Chad Bonin, Arley Bonin, and Karina Bonin; and four great grandchildren, Shae Bonin, Taylor Bonin, Kristin Bonin, and Dru Castex. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mienville and Corinne Aucoin Bonin; two brothers, Lol and Howard Bonin; and a grandson, Brandon Bonin. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Dion Hall in Catahoula from 10 a .m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue at 7 a .m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday. Pallbearers will be Eric, Glenn , Chad , Arley, and Karina Bonin, and Tami B. Castex. Honorary pallbearers will be his four great grandchildren.
