Alvin Joseph Guigneaux, Sr.

April 17, 1926 — May 5, 2018

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at St. Edward Catholic Church for Mr. Alvin Joseph Guigneaux, Sr., 92 who passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 5, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Fr. Thomas Vu will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 8:00 am until 10:15 am. A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, LA, Mr. Guigneaux enjoyed a full life with family and numerous friends. He was born on April 17, 1926 to John Simpson Guigneaux and Agnes Broussard Guigneaux, and was affectionally known as DaDa to his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He loved family gatherings, country living, TV westerns, and trail rides with his famous covered wagon and mules, Kate and Sally. Mr. Guigneaux started his adult life as a share cropper, with his Honey, Inez Derouen Guigneaux to whom he was married for 66 years, and later trying his hand at furniture manufacturing and auto mechanics. He worked hard all his life and built a strong sense of fortitude in his children as he eventually came to own his own business, Alvins Auto Repair. He was an Iberia Parish School Bus Driver for 15 years and was the former President of the local School Bus Driver Association, advocating and lobbying for their benefit at the local and state level. Through the years, he became well known in New Iberia with many friends. He is survived by his wife, Inez Derouen Guigneaux, six children, Karen Guigneaux Ledet of Monroe, Charlotte Guigneaux Olivier, Jocelyn Guigneaux Derouen (Darryl), Theresa Guigneaux Lopez (Walter), Alvin Joseph Guigneaux, Jr. (Debbie), Keith James Guigneaux all of New Iberia, and one brother-in-law, Willie Derouen, Jr. He is also survived by a special grandson, Nathan Lopez, for whom the family is eternally gratefully as he took special care of his grandfather during his lengthy illness. In addition, he is survived by 20 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Simpson Guigneaux and Agnes Broussard Guigneaux, two sisters Rita Bernice Guigneaux Landry, and Emma Guigneaux Landry, one grandchild, Chantel Marie Lopez, one great-great child, Elijah Sanders, and one son-in-law, Solomon Joseph Ledet, Sr. Pallbearers will be Alvin Joseph Guigneaux, Jr., Keith James Guigneaux, Brian Leday, Ross Olivier, Sr., Jason Derouen, and Nathan Lopez. Honorary Pallbearers will include his sons-in-law, grandsons, his brother-in-law, Willie Derouen, Jr., and special nephews, Harvey Landry, Gary Derouen, and Brett Bajoie. The family would like to give a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice for all their care and support in such a loving manner.
