New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Monday, October 22, 2007, at St. Peter Catholic Church, in New Iberia for Alvin Anthony Hernandez, Sr. "San Antone", 75, who died Friday, October 19, 2007 in New Iberia.
Entombment will be in Holy Family Mausoleum.
Rev. Jude Halphen will be the Celebrant. Readers will be Joycelyn Hoover and Alyssa Hernandez. Gift Bearers are his granddaughters, Kristen, Aimee', and Alyssa.
Mr. Hernandez is a native of Lafayette and a longtime resident of New Iberia, having worked in the oil and gas industry for 45 years for Texaco and Texas Crude Oil. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling, building models, music, and drinking coffee with his friends Ray and Jules.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Edler Hernandez of New Iberia; sons, Kansas Hernandez and wife Jean of Lafayette, Matthew Hernandez and wife Kim of New Iberia, Alvin Hernandez, Jr. and life partner Bill Leatherman of Alexandria, Shawn Hernandez and wife Holly of Lafayette; brother, Charles Hernandez and wife Carmen of New Iberia; sister, Genevieve Ellis and husband James of College Station, TX; grandchildren, Kristen Hernandez, Eric Hernandez, Aimee' Hernandez, Alyssa Hernandez, Taylor Hernandez, Cade Hernandez, and Reece Hernandez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Naomi Moore Hernandez and a sister, Theresa Riggs.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be at 7:00 PM Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Kansas Hernandez, Matthew Hernandez, Alvin Hernandez, Jr., Shawn Hernandez, Eric Hernandez, and Bill Leatherman.
Honorary pallbearers include Ray Eastin, Jules Stoltz, Fred Edler, John Ray Herring, Josh Herring, James Ellis, Charles Hernandez, and Mr. Hernandez's grandchildren.
The family would like to extend special appreciation to Mr. Hernandez's caregiver, Rose Breaux, and to the staff and management of Belle Teche Nursing Center, especially Kelly Hebert, for their compassionate care and accommodations.
