BreauxBridge - Funeral services will be held at 3 pm , on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Alvin Joseph Richard, 77, who passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and continue on Thursday at 9 am until 2:30 pm, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 pm on Wednesday.
Fr. Donald Pousson will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Al and Linda Guidroz, and his grandchildren will serve as Gift Bearers Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Mr. Richard honorably served his country in the United States Army. He began his career with Southern Pacific Railroad in 1955 and retired in 1997. While working for Southern Pacific, he worked in San Francisco, Houston, New Orleans, and Lafayette, as a division budget officer.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt, and was member of the San Saba Hunting Club and Whiskey Bay Hunting Club. He also enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Family members will always remember the twinkle he had in his eyes each time a grandchild walked through the door.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Elaine Mason Richard of Lafayette; his son, Keith (Laurie) Richard of Lafayette; his daughters, Kristi (Ron) Russ of Alaska and Tracy (Todd) Thibodeaux of Houston; his sisters, Rose Devillier, Genevieve Richard, both of Breaux Bridge, Mary Caillier of Lafayette, and Grace Lancon of New Iberia; and his five grandchildren, Ryan Boudreaux, Sarah Dunn, Ashley Richard, Jessica Richard and Megan Thibodeaux.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Richard and Jeanne LaJaunie Richard; and his brother, Pat Richard.
The family would like to give special thanks to Drs. Kaufman, Chastant, and especially Dr. Brierre, the nurses on the 9th floor LTAC unit, and the staff of Lafayette General Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be Keith Richard, SGM Ron Russ, Todd Thibodeaux, Ryan Boudreaux, Andy Richard, and Mike Guidry.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the San Saba and Whiskey Bay Hunting Clubs.
