New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia for Amelia Emmer Prade, 86, who died Friday, April 2, 2010 in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Queen of Peace Mausoleum in St. Martinville.
Ms. Amelia was a successful business woman in the City of St. Martinville for many years. She was the driving force that brought SMILE Head Start to the area. Amelia loved flowers and planting vegetable gardens as well as farming in the outdoors. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much and was a devoted wife of 58 years to Mr. William Prade before his passing.
Born November 8, 1923, Ms. Prade is survived two sons, Scody Prade and wife Pamela of St. Martinville, and Terry Prade and wife Claudia of St. Martinville; one daughter, Rosalind Blaze and husband Edward of New Iberia; two brothers, Rudolph Bijou of Long Beach, Mississippi, and Raymond Broussard of Green Valley, Arizona; three sisters, Earline York of Folsom, Louisiana, Rosemary Broussard of Oakley, California, and Iona Heisser of Green Valley, Arizona; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Katherine Emmer; her husband, William Prade; one brother, Harold Emmer; one sister, Geraldine Pryor; and one grandchild, Keena Prade.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 7 PM. Visitation will then continue on Wednesday at 7:00 AM until 9:30 AM at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville.
Since Amelia loved education and was very involved with the funding of Trinity Catholic School, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to St. Edward Catholic School, 175 Porter Street., New Iberia, LA 70560.
