St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Amos Joseph Derise, Jr., 75, who passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in Carencro.
Msgr. J. Douglas Courville will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Kara Guidry and Chelsea Derise.
Mr. Derise was retired from the military after 25 years of loyal and dedicated service, attaining the rank of Sergeant with the United States Army, having honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He then later went to work as a truck driver for Charles Holston. Amos enjoyed the freedom he felt when he was riding his motorcycle. He dedicated his entire life to his family and to his country and will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian L. Derise, of New Iberia; one son, Douglas Derise and his wife, Dolores, of St. Martinville; his daughter, Valarie D. Dale, of Columbia; two sisters, Alice Guillotte and Mildred Boutte, both of New Iberia; and six grandchildren, Kara Guidry, Jude Derise, Chelsea Derise, Luke Derise, Brianna Dale and Jeremy Dale, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos Derise, Sr. and Pauline Sonnier Derise; his first wife, Patricia Castille Derise; a son, David Derise; and his half-brother, Leroy Champagne.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue at 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
