A cherished member of our community and a dedicated advocate for children, Angel was born on April 26, 1965, to the late Winston Leon Estis and Mattie Ackal Estis. Her life was a tapestry woven with love, compassion, and a remarkable commitment to her calling as a Special Education Counselor for Iberia Parish Schools.
Affectionately known as "Mamo" to her grandchildren, Angel graduated from the Episcopal School of Acadiana, where her journey in education began. She went on to earn her Master's Degree from Louisiana State University, equipping her with the knowledge and skills she would utilize throughout her illustrious career. Angel’s passion for her work was evident in every interaction she had, as she always approached her role with a heart full of love and a desire to uplift her students.
Not only did Angel make a meaningful impact on the lives of her school kids, but she also possessed a vibrant spirit that extended beyond the classroom. Her enthusiasm for sports was infectious; she found joy in playing softball, and her loyalty to LSU Football and the New Orleans Saints defined many game days filled with cheers and camaraderie.
A very caring and loving person, Angel left an imprint of kindness on all whose lives she touched. Her laughter and warmth will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and the countless students who benefited from her unwavering support and encouragement.
Survivors include her sons, Grant Duhon and Brandon Duhon; grandchildren, Declan Duhon and Daisy Duhon; brothers, Johnny Estis (Debbie) and Jamell Estis (Kathy); sister, Wynston Estis; mother-in-law, Joselyn Duhon; sister-in-law, Angela Duhon Qaisieh (Nabih); godmother, Gail Ackal; godchildren, Jenna Estis LeBlanc and Mikael Estis Benoit; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by nephew, John Daniel Estis; brother-in-law, Lonnie Duhon.
Although Angel has departed from this earthly realm, her legacy of compassion and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will always be remembered for her love, her passion, and her unwavering belief in the potential of every child she encountered. Rest peacefully, dear Angel; your light will forever shine in our memories.
