Anita Matthews

St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Union Baptist Church in St. Martinville, for Anita Louviere Matthews, 95, who passed away on Friday, November 23, 2012, at New Iberia Manor North. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Union Baptist Church on Saturday from 7:00 am until 10:45 am. Rev. Joel Greene, Sr. will officiate at the funeral service. Interment will follow at Union Baptist Cemetery. Mrs. Matthews was a lifelong member of Union Baptist Church in St. Martinville and was also the oldest Deaconess to serve her church. She was an avid reader and especially loved reading her Bible. Anita enjoyed spending time in her kitchen baking; making candy was her specialty. She had a kind and giving heart, always willing and able to assist those in need. Anita would strongly encourage young people to read as much as they could and to strive to make better grades in school. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (Roy Edward) Brown of Broussard; three brothers, Norris Louviere, Sr. of Port Arthur, TX, Daniel Louviere, Sr. of St. Martinville, and Felton Louviere of San Antonio, TX; and three sisters, Florence L. Johnson of Port Arthur, TX, Lera L. Alexander of Cordova, TN, and Alberta L. Malveaux of St. Martinville. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Albert Matthews; her father, Albert Louviere, Sr.; her mother, Ceanna Alexander Louviere; three brothers, Albert Louviere, Jr., Hilery Louviere, Sr., and Enis Louviere; and two sisters, Lorena L. Ledet and Edna L. Simon. Pallbearers will be Kirk Malveaux, Hilery Louviere, Jr., Brandon Ledet, James Louviere, Wayne Louviere, Michael Louviere, and Daniel Louviere, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Norris Louviere, Sr., Daniel Louviere, Sr., Felton Louviere, LeRoy Simon, Calvin Malveaux, Roy Brown, Alley Potier, and Murphy Simon.
