Anna Mae was born on September 14, 1934, in Gross Isle. Anna Mae, affectionately known as "Meme" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren lived a simple life. She was a woman of deep Catholic faith, whose number one priority was always the well-being of her husband and family. She was a prayer warrior, who devoted much of her time praying the rosary and novenas for family and friends daily. Her faith was also displayed by the 32 years she and her husband committed to adoration hour at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church and Community of Jesus Crucified.
Anna Mae was a talented woman. In her younger years, she was a seamstress for many. She was also a fabulous cook who loved displaying her culinary talent by preparing delicious meals for her family, especially for holiday gatherings. She was well-known for her famous pecan cake, which she baked for many in the community.
One of Anna Mae's greatest pleasures in life was working side by side in her yard with her husband. She had a green thumb and took great pride in her many potted plants and well-manicured yard. Her fruits of labor were affirmed by receiving the Garden Club's prestigious "Garden of the Month" Award numerous times. She also loved decorating their beautiful lawn for every holiday, especially Christmas and Easter.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Jules Dore; sons, Darren (Cathy) Dore, Charles (Elaine) Dore, Clayton (Linda) Dore and Brian (Wendy) Dore; brothers, Maurice Schexnayder, Ray Schexnayder, David Schexnayder and Dale Schexnayder; sisters, Myra Hebert, Elizabeth Moss, Alice LeBlanc, Sharon Landry, Linda Foster and Shirley Abshire; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Leona Dore; son-in-law, Brady Hebert; parents, Odeonce and Fedora Menard Schexnayder; siblings Theresa Trahan, Nita O'Neil, Presley Schexnayder, Percy Doucet, Joseph Schexnayder, Jerry Abshire, Clifton Abshire, Elrina Barras and Edith Romero.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Coby Dore, Chase Dore, Caleb Dore, Casey Dore, Chandler Dore, Jacob Dore, and Hunter Dore.
The family would like to thank Landmark of Acadiana, Ochsner LGMC ICU staff, and the Calcutta House for the care they provided.
