Annabelle was born in St. James Parish on April 8, 1923, and was a resident of New Iberia for the past 75 years. She was the second of eight children born to the late Leonce Gaudin, Sr. and the late Annette Duhe Romero. Annabelle's employment included Nurse's Assistant at the old Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia, where she cared for newborns and preemies for many years; Nurse's Assistant for Dr. Joseph Musso (15 years); Nurse's Assistant for Dr. Phillip Cullotta (15 years); the Iberia Parish School System making sure that students were provided with nutritious meals; and Clymers Seafood Packing Plant whenever she was needed. Her hobbies included league bowling, flower gardening, and weekends fishing and tending to "Mom's Garden" in Toledo Bend at her son and daughter-in-law's camp.
A loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and mother-in-law, Annabelle held a special place in the hearts of her family. She was a devout Catholic and a lifelong parishioner of St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia, where she attended daily mass when she was able, and volunteering when she was needed. For many years, she was one of God's Little Helpers who cleaned and ironed the church altar vestments. Annabelle had the gift of being able to grow just about anything. To say she had a "green thumb" was an understatement. Even if someone thought a plant should be thrown out, Annabelle could bring it back to life and make it flourish. She loved flowers, and her yard was a testament of that. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all.
Those she leaves to cherish her memory include her seven children; sons, Albert P. Etie, Jr. and wife, Betty, of Gardena, CA; Rogers L. Etie, Sr. and wife, Cynthia, of Broussard; Douglas J. Etie of Desert Hot Springs, CA; Brian J. Etie and wife, Mona, of Erath; Calvin A. Etie of San Antonio, TX; Mark Etie of Linn Grove, Iowa; daughter, Elaine Miller of Rayne; brothers, Hubert Gaudin and wife Dorothy, of Austin, TX and Leonce Gaudin, Jr. of New Iberia; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Albert P. Etie, Sr. and Robert Fiedler; brother, Clifton Gaudin; sisters, Earline G. Etie and Rita G. Migues; daughter-in-law, Diane Etie; granddaughter, Brandi Lynn Etie; and a great-grandson, Parrish Jody Gerard Webster.
Serving as pallbearers will be her sons, Rogers L. Etie, Sr., Brian J. Etie, Calvin A. Etie, and Mark Etie; and grandsons, Rogers "Chip" Etie, Jr. and Shawn Etie.
Honorary pallbearers will be her sons Albert Etie, Jr. and Douglas J. Etie, grandsons Scott Miller, Kyle Etie, and Clint Etie; great-grandsons Lyle Miller and Lane Miller; and nephew Randie Etie.
