Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Anthon Joseph Dupuis, 86, who passed away on Friday, June 6, 2008 at his residence in Lafayette.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Fr. Allen Breaux, Associate Pastor of St. Bernard Church, will conduct the funeral service. ?Readers will be Addie Prewitt and Abigail Scivicque.
Mr. Dupuis was a parishioner of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church for many years. ?A veteran of World War II, having honorably served his country in the United States Army in the Air Offensive in Europe, he received the World War II Victory Medal. ?He loved the rivers and was once a boat pilot, later going to work for Southern Pacific Railroad as a machinist where he retired after many years of dedicated service.
He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves Baseball and loved gardening and cooking his ""Sunday Special - Barbecue"" for all his family and friends to enjoy. ?A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his family. ?As he would often ask his grandchildren, ""How much does Paw Paw love you?"" - ""Big, Big, Big, like the house.""
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 beautiful years, Genevieve Hebert Dupuis, of Lafayette; four sons, Glenn Dupuis, Aaron Dupuis and his wife, Cindy, Michael Dupuis and his wife, Betty, all of Lafayette, and Richard Dupuis and his wife, Maria, of Ocoee, FL; two daughters, Debbie Prewitt and her husband, Larry, of Lafayette, and Charlotte Scivicque and her husband, Joe, of Wylie, TX; three brothers, Wade Dupuis and his wife, Anita, Francis Dupuis and his wife, Rena ""Sis"", and Newton Dupuis and his wife, Della, all of Henderson; one half brother, Allen Dupuis, of Lafayette; one sister, Dorothy ""Dot"" Huval, of Cecilia; 11 grandchildren, Casey, Lainey, Addie, Lindsey, Joddie, Jared, Jade, Abigail, Robert, Danielle, and David; and 5 great grandchildren, Layne Michael, Justice, Baylen, Dayten, and Britten Michael.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Dupuis Sr. and Theresa Courville Dupuis; his step mother, Adaise Jeansonne Dupuis; four brothers, Sprague, Charles, Lloyd, and Walter Dupuis, Jr.; a grandson, Barlow James Dupuis; and a brother-in-law, Reeves Huval.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday and continue at 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening.
Pallbearers will be Larry Prewitt, Aaron Dupuis, Richard Dupuis, Joe Scivicque, Jade Dupuis, Newton Dupuis, and Francis Dupuis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Dupuis, Mike Dupuis, Jared Dupuis, Wade Dupuis, J. R. Peltier, Dalton ""Swit"" Landry, and Wesley ""B.B."" Serrett.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Journey Hospice, especially to Raquel, Lexie, and Debra, his caregiver, Lonnie Bourg, and all the doctors extending care to him during his illness.
