New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Anthony 'Tony' Gassiot, 65 who died Thursday, November 17, 2011 in Lafayette .
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery , with military honors by the New Iberia VFW Post 1982.
Rev. Jude Thierry will be the Celebrant.
Born on September 9, 1946 , Mr. Gassiot worked as an electrician in the oilfield for over 48 years, and proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War. He had a passion for woodworking, building cabinets, furniture, and other things.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Champagne Gassiot of New Iberia; son, Mark Gassiot of New Iberia; daughter, Donna Gassiot of Mandeville; step sons, Troy LeBlanc of Lafayette, Travis LeBlanc and wife Traci of Ocala, Florida; sister, Aline Noel of Covington; brother, Robert 'Bobby' Gassiot of Covington; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, August and Elizabeth Zimmer Gassiot; and a half brother, August Gassiot, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Mark Gassiot, Troy LeBlanc, Travis LeBlanc, Billy Mair, Tommy Wong, and Larry Chevalon.
Honorary pallbearers include Vernon Dugas, Gordy Babineaux, Roussell Picou, Rusty Laviolette, Roeling Noel, and Lincoln LeBlanc.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 2:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd , in New Iberia . A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM .
