Breaux Bridge - A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at St. Bernard Cemetery #2 Mausoleum for Arlan "Bud" C. Colledge.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Wednesday from 8:30 am until 10:00 am.
Brother Rob Burdeaux will officiate the Graveside Service, followed by full military honors.
Arlan Cyril Colledge was born on June 30, 1933 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Elton Grant Colledge and Myrtle Winters Colledge. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the United States Army and served for 20 years. He served in the Korean War and Vietnam earning a bronze medal. During his military career, he was assigned to Ft Riley, Kansas, Bamburg, Germany, Ft Benning, Georgia, University of Tennessee, The American Embassy in the Philippines, Fort Monroe, Virginia and Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis.
He was proud of his ancestry being a descendant of men and women who helped William Penn colonize Pennsylvania. He was distantly related to Abraham Lincoln. His ancestors served in every war the colonies and the United States were involved with starting with 'The French and Indian War' through the 'Civil War'.
He lived in Breaux Bridge with his wife and daughter. He loved fishing and he and his wife used to fish at Rockefeller Refuge whenever he had the time to do so. He did woodwork and made cedar hope chests for several of his nieces, his nephews and his daughter. He liked to build things and he built clocks and candle holders. He enjoyed his retirement and traveled with his wife to various places like Pennsylvania, Florida, Iowa and Minnesota. He traveled to 38 states in his lifetime in the United States and he enjoyed it.
Arlan died on May 10, 2024 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He leaves behind his wife, Lena Verrett Colledge, to whom he was married for 70 years. He also leaves behind his daughter, Lenora Colledge; his sons, Garry Colledge and James Colledge; his brother, Robert Colledge; his sister, Jean Christopher; two grandchildren; nieces, Patsy Hebert and her husband, Gregory, Stacey Whalen and Kelly Cooke; nephew, Andrew Colledge; and great-niece, Molly McKean and her husband Matt, along with their children, Wyatt and Lillian McKean.
He was preceded in death by his parents and these brothers and sisters: Gerald Colledge, Doris Foor, Patricia Lobb, Myrna Cogan, Corrin Colledge and Nyle Colledge.
