St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Arthur Joseph Gedward, Jr., 86, who passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Friday and continue at 8:00 am until 10:30 am on Saturday. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Friday. Rev. Augustinus Seran SVD will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Eucharistic Ministers will be Francine Williams, Lovina Gedward, and Eunita Gedward. Gift Bearers will be Christy Dugas, Kyndal Lindon, AnJanae Benjamin, and Destinee DeRouen. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Gedward worked as a cane cutter at St. John Plantation and as a truck driver for J.B. Talley. He enjoyed doing mechanic work, cleaning his car, and going to the casino. He loved playing with his grandchildren, 'Tutu' and 'Des'. He loved to buy them chips from Blue and looked forward to picking up 'Des' from school. Mr. Gedward was a parishioner of Notre Dame Catholic Church and a member of the Goodwill Society. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Mae Roberts Gedward; two sons, Clyde (Joann Etienne) Gedward and Arthur (Gloria) Gedward; two sisters, Thelma (Howard) Smith and Orlena Gedward; seven grandchildren, Leander Gedward, Jr., DeShannon Randall, Marcus Calligan, Chavis Archangel, Samuel Gedward, LaShonda Gedward, and Clyde Gedward, Jr.; 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Joseph Gedward, Sr.; his mother, Eunita Mallery Gedward; a son, Leander Gedward, Sr.; three brothers, Robert Gedward, Leroy Gedward, and Lincoln Gedward; two sisters, Mary Ruby Kerlegan and Mary Ann Valsin; a great grandson, Danny Paul DeRouen, II; and a niece, Susie Kerlegan. Pallbearers will be Kendall Guidry, Graylon Guidry, Dexter Ambroise, Marvin Ambroise, Clarence Kerlegan, and DeShannon Randall. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
