New Iberia - Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 24, 2018, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Arthur "Butch" L. Schexnayder, Jr., 78, who passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018, in Lafayette.
Entombment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Officiant.
A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, and will continue on Monday from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.
A rosary, led by Deacon Durk Viator, will be prayed at 5:00 pm on Sunday.
A native of New Iberia, Arthur “Butch” Schexnayder, Jr. was born on December 31, 1939 to the late Florence Fisher Schexnayder and Arthur L. Schexnayder, Sr. He proudly served our country as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy, and was a graduate of Opelousas High School and LSU School of Banking. Mr. Schexnayder served as Executive Vice President of People's Bank, then as President and CEO of Citibank and Trust in New Iberia until his retirement. He was also a Real Estate Investor and co-owner of Schexnayder Rentals. He was a longtime member of the New Iberia Rotary Club. Arthur was one of the most honest and generous people you could ever know. He was a family man first, having taught his children about business and how to survive in the world. He loved gardening and working in his yard, and he spent many of his younger years hunting and fishing and living at Cypremort Point. He was also into snakes and knives. A quiet and simple man, Arthur enjoyed spending time with his family; he will be deeply missed.
Mr. Schexnayder is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Norma Dupre Schexnayder; son, Douglas R. Schexnayder of New Iberia; daughter, Christine Ann Schexnayder of New Iberia; grandchildren, Brandi King, Lexy Schexnayder, and Bo Douglas Schexnayder; a great grandchild, Alex King; godson, Michael Delahoussaye; brothers, Gene Schexnayder of New Iberia and Jimmy Schexnayder of Lafayette; sisters, Elizabeth (Irby) Delahoussaye of Crowley, Madeline (Byron) Bernard of Baton Rouge, and Carol (J.B.) Viviano of Opelousas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Kent Schexnayder, brothers, Wayne and Norman Schexnayder.
Pallbearers will be Bo Schexnayder, Gene Schexnayder, Jimmy Schexnayder, Irby Delahoussaye, Chad Cormier, and Todd Cormier.
