Audrey Marie Romero, a strong and courageous woman who overcame obstacles throughout her life, was born in Loreauville, Louisiana on February 7, 1938, to the late Roy Joseph Romero and Anita Tauzin Romero.

Audrey's story is one of resilience and faith. Since birth, she faced physical challenges as a result of being handicapped and later becoming an amputee. In addition, she had battled seizures since the tender age of five. Despite these hardships, Audrey emerged as a beacon of strength, inspiring all those who had the privilege to know her.

Growing up on a farm, Audrey took on the responsibility of caring for the household. Her determination and dedication were evident in every aspect of her life. She was known for her unwavering commitment and devotion to her family.

A devout Christian, Audrey loved the Lord with all her heart and found solace in attending church services regularly. Her deep spirituality was exemplified by her ability to recite the 23rd Psalm by heart. Every night, Audrey eagerly awaited her sister Sheryl's call so they could pray together. Drury and Braylie were another important source of spiritual strength; they stood by Audrey's side, praying with her and for her continuously.

Beyond her faith and family, Audrey found joy in simple pleasures like Bingo and Pokeno. These activities brought laughter and excitement into her life.

Though Audrey did not have children of her own, she wholeheartedly adored all of her nieces and nephews, and especially her godchildren. They all loved Audrey, and joined together as a family to ensure that Audrey always had what she needed.

Audrey is survived by her two loving sisters, Juanita Owens (Whitney) and Sheryl Derouen (Daniel); godchildren, Rita Broussard, Danny Derouen, and Lynnwood Derouen; nieces, Johvanna Derouen, Rhonda Poirrier, and Derissa Comeaux; and nephews, Richard Owens, Kirk Derouen, Randy Owens, Sr., Rowdy Owens, Sr., Drury Derouen, Rene Owens, Derrick Derouen, Marvin Derouen, and Lionel Derouen, III.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lamona Romero Derouen; brother-in-law, Lionel Derouen, Jr.; niece, Patricia Owens; and husband, Eulj Verret.

Pallbearers are Drury Derouen, Jason Broussard, Danny Derouen, Lynnwood Derouen, Richard Owens, Derrick Derouen, and Rene Owens.

Honorary pallbearers are Rita Broussard, Derissa Comeaux, Rhonda Poirrier, Johvanna Derouen, Randy Owens, Sr., Rowdy Owens, Sr., Kirk Derouen, Marvin Derouen, and Lionel Derouen, III.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staffs of Consolata Nursing Home, Maison Teche Nursing Home, Iberia Medical Center, Lafayette General Medical Center, and Hospice of Acadiana for extraordinary care and compassion.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, let us remember Audrey as a woman who defied odds, loved passionately, and embraced life's challenges with unwavering strength. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come. Her spirit lives on in our hearts forever.
