A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Barbara Ann Mallet Menard was born on December 9, 1938, to the late Alexis Mallet, Sr. and Adelia Comeaux Mallet. For many years, she dedicated herself as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Menard's Welding Service. Barbara was a woman deeply rooted in faith and community. She was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD for over 35 years. Her unwavering faith guided her actions, as she led a ladies' rosary group from her home, fostering friendships and spiritual growth among her neighborhood and church companions.
Barbara’s love for others extended far and wide. She was affectionately known as the “neighborhood mom.” Her warm heart and nurturing spirit made her a beacon of hope and comfort, especially to many of her own grandchildren whom she cared for over the years.
Barbara was an avid quilter and crocheter, often wrapping loved ones in the warmth of her handmade creations. Her love for music resonated through her gentle strumming of the guitar, and she embraced nature through camping and flower gardening, where she nurtured blooms just as she nurtured the souls around her.
Mrs. Menard is survived by her loving husband of nearly 68 years, Francis Menard; children, Francine Gondran (Richard), Evelyn Bourque (Mark), Jo Ellen Menard (Anthony Louviere), and Kendall Menard; daughter-in-law, Ann Menard; siblings, Alexis Mallet, Jr. (Linda), and Charlene Stroud (Mark); grandchildren, Tommy Menard, Lindsay Gondran (Matt Walker), Erin Ann Gondran, Justin Gondran, Lance Bourque, Jordan Bourque (Gabrielle), Spencer Leger (Breanne), Victoria Ann Desormeaux (Dexter), Rylen Doucet, Shelby Alexis Menard, and Dylan Menard (Christina); and great grandchildren, Masyn, Mia, Molli, Micah, and Noah.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Thomas Menard; a great-grandson, Nash Doucet; and two infant sisters.
Pallbearers will be Dylan Menard, Spencer Leger, Lance Bourque, Jordan Bourque, Alexis Mallet III, and Joseph Mallet.
Honorary pallbearers are Justin Gondran, Alexis Mallet, Jr., and Mark Stroud.
Barbara will be remembered for her profound faith, her loving heart, and her incredible impact on all who crossed her path. May she rest in peace.
