A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Hargrave was born on November 2, 1942 to the late Augusta and Ouida Brown Fontenot. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Barbara volunteered at Daspit Elementary for many years, where she loved being around all the children, and she was affectionately known as "Granny." Barbara really enjoyed her time spent at IMC Rehab Center with Mike and the gang; it was there that she made new friends that she loved seeing several times a week. She also enjoyed cooking, margaritas, fishing, traveling, growing vegetables, and watching golf and baseball, but her passion was her family. Time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren is what she cherished most; her great-grandchildren were "her medicine," and nothing else mattered when they were near.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Rayland Hargrave Sr.; two sons, Eric Hargrave and wife Ashley of Broussard, and Ray Hargrave, Jr. of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Kristine Hargrave Duhe and husband Richard of New Iberia; three grandchildren, Blair Duhe Segura and husband Cody, Kyle Duhe, and Hunter Hargrave and spouse Victoria; three great-grandchildren, Rome Segura, Porter Hargrave, and Letty Segura; a brother, H.A. "Hank" Fontenot and wife Gloria of New Iberia; and her beloved dog, Roxy.
Pallbearers will be Eric Hargrave, Rayland Hargrave Jr., Kyle Duhe, Hunter Hargrave, Cody Segura, and Richard Duhe.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the medical staff and personnel who contributed to her care and rehabilitation while she continued to defy all odds.
