St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Barbara Ann Leon, 76, who passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Notre Dame Catholic Church from 7:00 am until 11:00 am on Thursday.
A rosary will be prayed at 8:30 am on Thursday.
Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.
Barbara was a parishioner and member of the choir at Notre Dame Catholic Church for many years. She was a strong believer in God, and she kept the family together with her prayers and powerful words of wisdom. She enjoyed singing, cooking, trail riding, dancing, and following Keith Frank and his band. She was referred to as the “Queen of Zydeco”. Barbara loved taking care of her grandchildren who spent their younger years under her care. Keeping in close contact with her sisters and shopping at her favorite clothing store, Ross's, were amongst some of her favorite things to do in her spare time.
She is survived by her three sons, Stoney Trahan, Jr. of Baton Rouge, Jerome Trahan of St. Martinville, and Jermaine (Mia) Trahan of Baton Rouge; five daughters, Anna Trahan (Gregory) of St. Martinville, Bridget Trahan of Lafayette, Jennifer Trahan (Rickey) of New Iberia, Sherry Trahan of Lafayette, and Teflan (Ravis) Martinez of Lafayette; six sisters, Marie (Murphy) Simon of St. Martinville, Theresa Leon of St. Martinville, Linda Leon of Lafayette, Dorothy Leon of Baton Rouge, Jessie Leon of Houston, TX, and Dianne (Stanley) White of Arizona; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Antoine and Mary Dauphine Leon; brother, Leroy Leon; and five sisters, Anna Mae Leon, Emily Nadie, Mary Alice Leon, Dianna Leon and Anna Lou Leon.
