Basile LeGrand

Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 2, 2008, ?at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Basile LeGrand, 89, who passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. The Rev. Allen Breaux, Associate Pastor of St. Bernard Catholic Church, will officiate and conduct the funeral Mass. ?Giftbearers will be his great grandchildren. ?Lectors will be his granddaughters, Christy Picard and Karen Pellerin. Born June 14, 1918, Basile is the son of the late Antoine LeGrand and the late Andrea Eddy LeGrand. ?He was the owner of LeGrand's Grocery Store for 33 years and also raised and trained Quarter horses. ?He was a member of the Pont Breaux Saddle Club for many years. ?He loved gardening and especially enjoyed providing family and friends with his homemade wine, that he shared with those he loved. ?Basile treasured those times spent with family and friends, and he will be sadly missed by them. ? Survivors include his son, Gerald LeGrand, Sr. and his wife Cheryl, of Cecilia; his daughter, Renella Cormier and her husband, John of Breaux Bridge; five grandchildren, Karen Pellerin, Butch Cormier, Christy Picard, Gerald LeGrand, Jr. and Justin Broussard; six great grandchildren, Brennan Thibodeaux, Lexi LeGrand, Danielle Cormier, Michael Pellerin, Sarah Pellerin and Kaitlyn Picard. ?He is also survived by two sisters, Amelie LeGrand, of Henderson, and Helen Burleigh, of Port Arthur, TX; and one brother, Andrew LeGrand of Henderson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Alice Latiolais LeGrand; his parents; his brothers, Allen and Paul LeGrand and his sister, Mary Guidry. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 1:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008 and continue at 7:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Deacon Butch Hebert will recite the rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Gerald LeGrand, Jr., Butch Cormier, Doug Pellerin, Robley Picard, Greg Gauthier and Donald LeGrand. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Thibodeaux, Rudolph Landry, Ellen Courville, Denise Laviolette and Raymond Rodriguez. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
