Bernard Scelfo, Sr.

New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, in New Iberia, for Bernard Scelfo, Sr., 96, who passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.

Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery.

Rev. Keith Landry will be the Celebrant.

Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church on Saturday, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am.

A longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Scelfo was born on November 26, 1926, in Bogalusa, to the late Joseph Scelfo, Sr. and Jenny Saltaformaggio Scelfo. He served our country in the U.S. Navy, during World War II, and was a graduate of SLI. Mr. Scelfo retired from Conoco Oil Company, after 43 years of service, and was very active in his church.

Survivors include his children, Elizabeth Cannon (Ray), Bernard “Butch” Scelfo, Jr. (Alice), Michael Scelfo (Debbie), Stephen Scelfo (Virginia), David Scelfo (Donna), and Paul Dean Scelfo (Tammy); 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Helen Scelfo; grandchildren, Jacob Burl Cannon, Cynthia Jo Cannon, and Rocky Scelfo; grandnephew, Sam Scelfo; and brothers, Joseph Scelfo and Sam Scelfo.

Pallbearers will be Bernard “Butch” Scelfo, Jr., Michael Scelfo, Stephen Scelfo, David Scelfo, Paul Dean Scelfo, and Ray Cannon.

Honorary pallbearers include Sammy Scelfo and John Scelfo.
