New Iberia ;- Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 14, 2009, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in New Iberia, for Bernice Gachassin Alvarado, 90, who passed away on Friday, September 11, 2009 in New Iberia. ; Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. ; Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate. ; Born on June 8, 1919 in Youngsville, Mrs. Alvarado, along with her husband, owned and operated Pat's Grocery Store in New Iberia for over 25 years. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family, and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. ; Survivors include her daughters, Dolores Alvarado Boutte and husband Richard J. Boutte of New Iberia, Patsy Alvarado Lennie and husband Julius of Gretna, Mona Alvarado Anderson of Shreveport, Jennifer Alvarado Manuel and husband James A. Manuel of Broussard; son, Frank L. Alvarado and wife Sylvia of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; 16 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. ; She was preceded in death by husband, Patrick Alvarado; parents, Louis Gachassin, Sr. and Ezilda Bono Gachassin; brothers, Adleys "Tetit" Gachassin, William "Yum" Gachassin, Bill Gachassin, George Gachassin, Louis "Jun" Gachassin, Jr., Horace Gachassin; sisters, Cecile Vincent, and Elsie Thomasee. ; Pallbearers will be Brad Manuel, Ryan Segura, Justin Thibodeaux, Ross Thibodeaux, Jordy Suire, Christian Hensgens. Honorary pallbearers include Alan Alvarado, Andrew Alvarado, Blake Alvarado, Austen Alvarado, Patrick Mackey, Adam Fuselier, and Joshua Lennie. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Sunday.
