VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Bertha Derouen, 85, who passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2009 in New Iberia. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Paul Onuegbe will be the Celebrant. Born on September 11, 1923 in New Iberia, Ms. Bertha retired from Trappey's with 35 years of service. She enjoyed doll collecting, dancing, listening to music, and being with her family, especially her grandchildren. Always ready to go, Ms. Bertha was a member of the Catholic Daughters Loreauville Council 1401. Survivors include her sons, Harold Bonin and wife Linda of Portland, Oregon, Gilbert Bonin and wife Sylvia of New Iberia; daughters, Gloria Courville and husband Leroy of Loreauville, Irene Getsinger and husband Robert of Portland, Oregon; sister, Mable Sonnier of Rayne; 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest "Pichou" Bonin, Clemire Loul Derouen; parents, Maxim and Mestea Gaspard Badeaux; daughters, Georgia Mae Badeaux, and Mary Mae Bonin; sisters, Andrea Theresa Hebert, and Felicia Thibodeaux. Pallbearers will be Gilbert Bonin, Leroy Courville, Chad Courville, Donovan Bonin, Louis Prados, Brayton Bonin, and Dylan Prados. Honorary pallbearers include Harold Bonin and other family members. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. George Cousin, Dr. Layne Tuten, staff of Iberia Extended Care, Acadian Home Care, Judy, and Ms. Rosemary for the care and compassion that they gave to Ms. Bertha. A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 5:30 PM until 1:30 PM Tuesday at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Monday.
