Betty Jane Theriot Voorhies was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on November 15, 1923, to the late Rene Saul and Eunice Segura Theriot.

For many years, Betty, alongside her husband Robert, owned and operated New Iberia Hardware, a cornerstone of the community that reflected their dedication and hard work. She was not just a business owner but a significant figure whose warmth and kindness endeared her to patrons and friends alike.

Betty's life was deeply enriched by her family, as she took immense pride in raising four children who were her greatest joy. Her elegant demeanor and vivacious spirit made her a beloved social butterfly. Betty reveled in gathering with friends and family, especially during the vibrant festivities of local Mardi Gras Balls, where her laughter and joy could be felt ringing through the halls.

An avid traveler, Betty’s adventurous spirit led her to explore new places, creating memories that she would recount with glowing smiles. Her life was a tapestry woven with rich experiences, but above all, it was the time spent with her family that she treasured most.

Mrs. Voorhies is survived by a son, Robert Burke Voorhies, Jr. (Rosana Voorhies); grandchildren, Eric Garza, Nick Garza, Marc Garza, Maya Avalos, Chris Aucoin, Nick Ables, Leasa Renee Shotton (Jarod) and Nicole Marie Broussard (Garrett); great-grandchildren, Alaia Garza, Tyler Patrick Nance, Renee Nicole Garner (William), Rylan Rhys Shotton, Ethan Jarod Shotton, Kristen Alexis Shotton, Reagan Riley Nance; great-great-grandchildren, Ava Perez, Arlo Perez, and Violet Elyse Nance.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Burke Voorhies, Sr.; son, Rene Francis Voorhies; daughters, Barbara Ann Voorhies Ables and Catherine Voorhies Moore; and a sister, Yvonne Leleux.

Betty was a radiant presence whose spirit touched the lives of everyone she encountered. May she rest in peace.
