New Iberia - Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in New Iberia, for Beverly Victor Huckaby, 86, who died on Saturday, October 20, 2012, in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery.
Rev. Scott Bullock will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
Born on May 21, 1926, Mrs. Huckaby graduated from Opelousas High School in 1943, and moved to New Iberia in 1955, and was also a graduate of the University of Louisiana Lafayette. She was a member of the KKI-XI Chapter Teacher's Soriety, and the United Methodist Women. In 1969, she and her husband, Vernon, opened Victor's Cafeteria. Mrs. Huckaby also worked as a secretary for the First United Methodist Church of New Iberia, and was a school teacher for 15 years in Iberia Parish.
An avid golfer, she loved music, sewing, flower gardening, and most of all visiting with her friends and family.
Survivors include her son, Victor G. Huckaby and wife Catherine of New Iberia; daughters, Virginia H. Planchard of New Iberia, Rebecca H. Taylor and husband Steven of Richmond, VA; sisters-in-law, Dorothy H. Holloway of Opelousas, Wilma Miller of Atlanta, GA; special friend, Sue Ann Richard of Loreauville; 6 grandchildren, Quincy Taylor, James Planchard, Patrick Taylor, Lauren Huckaby, Vic Huckaby, Katelyn H. Sarkies; 9 great grandchildren, Durin Planchard, Victoria Boyance, Sydney Taylor, Shelby Taylor, Adalyn Planchard, Finlay Taylor, Joseph Taylor, Hannah Taylor, and Rhett Sarkies.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon J. Huckaby; parents, Allen and Ruth Taylor Victor; grandson, Mickey Planchard; sisters, Ramona V. Zerangue and husband James, Ruth Aleene V. Guillory and husband Roy; and a son-in-law, Michael Planchard.
Pallbearers will be Quincy Taylor, James Planchard, Patrick Taylor, Victor V. Huckaby, Allen Guillory, and Nicholas Sarkies.
