Breaux Bridge-A Gathering of Remembrance will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in Breaux Bridge, for Dr. Billy M. Duncan, EdD, 75, who passed away on Friday, March 5, 2010 at Louisiana Extended Care in Lafayette. Dr. Billy Duncan will be remembered for his passion and dedication to the field of education. Respected, admired, and embraced by decades of students and colleagues, Dr. Duncan constantly fought to find ways to improve the quality of education in the classroom. He helped write state legislation supporting teachers rights in the classroom. He also wrote proposals for a number of grants which provided funds for research and development of programs for educational enrichment. He also wrote a number of articles published in various scholarly journals. Dr. Duncan received his Bachelors Degree from Livingston State, and his Masters and Doctorate from the University of Alabama. An avid reader, classic car enthusiast, and a lover of music, Dr. Duncan served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Donella C. Duncan of Breaux Bridge; his son, Byron Duncan (Lisa) of Arnaudville; his daughter, Kim Domingue (John) of Carencro; his Brother, Calvin F. Duncan (Mary Jane) of Aliceville, AL; his grandchildren, Keri, Duncan, Abbie and Jessica; and his step grandchildren, Ryan, Rachel, and Grace. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Duncan and Annie Pearl Young; and his sisters, Hilda Beasley and Helen Miles. In lieu of flowers, a Memoriam Tribute in his name can be made through a donation to the National Parkinson's Foundation ;, 1501 NW 9th Ave., Miami, FL 33136. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
