A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date for Billy Jack McNair, 79 years old.
Billy Jack McNair, known to many as Uncle Jackie or just Bill, passed away peacefully at The Calcutta House (Hospice of Acadiana) on January 19, 2024. Born on May 23, 1944 in Laurel, Mississippi.
One of Bill’s greatest joys in life was his wife, Nita. He cherished every moment they spent together especially their cross-country travels. They created many great memories along the way. Bill and Nita lived in Louisiana, Florida, Texas, and Arkansas, coming back to Louisiana to make their final home.
Bill was a man of few words. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course perfecting his swing or casting a line into the calm waters while fly fishing in Colorado. Beyond that, he found joy in working with his hands as he tinkered away on various mechanical projects.
Bill served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. His dedication and bravery were exemplified during his time with the Ugly Angels Squadron serving two tours in Vietnam. He carried this sense of duty throughout his life, always lending a helping hand to those in need.
He is survived by his son, Eric C. McNair; daughter, Tammy S. Asad; a special nephew, Mason (Bruce) McNair; special great nephew, Alex McNair; numerous other nieces and nephews; his step-son, Pat Durand (Julie).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Casper and Estelle McNair; wife, Nita McNair; brothers, James "Jim" McNair, Robert "Bob" McNair; sisters, Betty Stokes, Clair Bishop, and Dorothy "Dot" Rushton.
Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
