New Iberia - Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, April 29, 2019, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Billy Ray Blackwell, Jr., 42, who passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, in New Iberia. Entombment will be at a later date. A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Monday. A longtime resident of New Iberia, Billy Ray Blackwell, Jr. was born in Winterhaven, FL on July 16, 1976, and was a self-employed roofer. Billy was a social butterfly that got along with everybody. He truly loved people. He excelled at track when he was in high school, and he loved to cook. Billy was a kind and gentle soul, and will be deeply missed. Billy is survived by a daughter, Claudia Blackwell; mother, Cookie Derise; step-father, Tod Derise; sister, Tony Blackwell Ridge; brother-in-law, Mark Ridge; and a niece, Stevie Ridge, all of New Iberia. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Ray Blackwell, maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Deanna Blanton; and grandfather, Lloyd Derise.
