Henderson - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Henderson for Birdie B. Guidry, 88, who passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Opelousas General Hospital.The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home in Arnaudville from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm on Wednesday and continue on Thursday at 7:00 am until 1:30 pm. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Wednesday.Rev. Randy Courville will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Henderson. Birdie worked in the seafood processing industry for over 40 years. She made friends in all her workplaces: Amy's, Hayes Fisheries, Robin's, and Cajun Seafood. After a while, they all became like family to her. Birdie loved to bake her favorite pineapple upside down and apple sauce cakes. For the holidays, she always made her homemade pralines and assorted pecan candy. She enjoyed growing a small garden and tending to her bed of lilies and fresh mint. Birdie loved the outdoors and walking to her neighbors to visit and drink coffee. She loved reading, doing word search and puzzles, watching game shows, soap operas, pro-baseball, and football, especially the Saints. Her family was her everything; spending time at gatherings and reunions brought a constant joy to her life. She is survived by her son, Fernest L. Guidry of Henderson; two daughters, Paula G, Taylor (Michael) of Arnaudville and Lillian G. Boone (Brian) of Carencro; grandchildren, Bailey Boone, Leslie Benoit, Lindsey B. Babineaux (Bradley), Dawson M. Taylor, Michael "JP" Taylor, Candice T. Robin (Kyle), Blair T. Guidry (John), Kainin M. Taylor, Nikki Schmidt, Jerrett Guidry, Ashley Knott, Chrystal Taylor, Mark B. Landry, Brenton J. Landry (Morgan), Ian M. Landry (Christine), Trent M. Landry, Chaise M. Guidry, Danielle Alfortish (Blake), Michelle Guidry (Luis), Kayla Parrino (Brad), and Cherae Thomassee; 36 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Beckie D. Guidry; son-in-law, Mark B. Landry, Sr.; sister, Mary B. Courville of Henderson; godchildren, Mia B. Chautin and Josie Taylor; and close friends, Mathilde Allemond, Larry and Cheryl Allemond, Valee Allemond and Rose A. Boone; and an abundance of loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney J. Guidry; parents, Lucien Neuville and Alvinia Robin Bergeron; daughter, Marcia G. Landry; son, Carl M. Guidry; granddaughter, Blake Nicole Boone; great granddaughters, Slayde Mirra Browne, Hope and Grace Rodriguez; sisters, Rosabelle Taylor (Harold), Elvinia "Peco" Bergeron and Helen Bergeron; and brothers, Dewey, Ernest (Irene), Alvin "T-Rouge", Lucien "Poncho", Emile, Alan, and Joseph Neuville Bergeron; father and mother-in-law, Edovick and Lucile Noel Guidry; sister-in-law, Lydia G. Landry (George); brothers-in-law, Nolan Guidry (Luna) and Alvin Courville. Pallbearers will be Brian K. Boone, Dawson M. Taylor, Ian M. Landry, Michael Taylor, Chaise M. Guidry, and Michael J.P. Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Fernest Guidry, Bailey Boone, Leslie Benoit, and Bradley Babineaux.The family would like to express their endless gratitude to ALL of the nurses and staff in the ER, ICU, PCU, and 5th floor at Opelousas General Hospital, who gave tremendous loving care to their beautiful Birdie during her illness until the time of her death. They appreciate all the dedication and hard work of the staffs in physical and occupational therapy, respiratory, and the cafeteria.
