Blake is survived by his parents, Jason and Tracie Norris Dugas; Justin Dugas (companion Tiffini Templet), Sage Dugas (girlfriend Brittany Racheau), and Canyn Dugas (girlfriend Jazmin Cruz), all of New Iberia; maternal grandfather, Keith Norris; uncles, Brian Norris (companion, Jennifer Delcambre), Dominic Norris (spouse Daniel), Adam Norris (spouse Angie), Phillip Norris (spouse Candace), Patrick Norris, Armand LeBlanc (spouse Sandy), Chris Dugas (spouse Laurie), Eric Dugas (spouse Maria); aunts, Andrea Norris Theriot (companion Jesse), Wanda Norris, Mary Blanchard (spouse Carol), Karen Day (spouse David), and Angel Henry (spouse Tracy). He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Diana Norris Dugas; paternal grandmother, Theresa Broussard; paternal grandfather, James "Jim" Dugas, Jr.; and uncles, Angel Norris and Fabian Dugas. Blake Micheal Dugas, son of Jason and Tracie Dugas, was born on December 1, 1990. He was our most unexpected surprise being born only 14 months after his older brother, Justin. We didn’t know it at that time, but we quickly learned the absolute joy of having two sons growing up together. Sometimes they were the best of friends, and sometimes they were very “competitive” with each other. Blake was a loving child; he was sweet and gentle, and loved making people laugh. Even as a child, he had a tough edge that helped mold him into a strong young man - a fighter, that helped carry him through difficult times in his life. If given half a chance, Blake could easily become a best friend for life to anyone he met. At the age of eight or nine, Blake received his first set of drums. He gradually acquired piece by piece from various friends and family. He was passionate about learning and playing from day one. His uncles, Patrick and Brian, helped guide and teach him how to play until he perfected his skills. Little did we know back then how much that talent would grow and blossom and become an incredibly integral part of his life and happiness. Music and the drums introduced him to a whole new world where he felt free to express himself in a truly profound and powerful way. Blake was a passionate person, very strong in his convictions, quite intelligent, but also head strong, stubborn and hard headed. He never backed down from an argument and strongly defended his views and beliefs, but always acknowledged and validated everyone’s opinions. He enjoyed debating politics and social issues. Blakes three brothers Justin, Sage and Canyn played a significant role in his life. Like most brothers, they sometimes fought and disagreed, but over the last year or so they really bonded with each other. He truly cherished every moment with them; they shared their experiences, passions, joys and helped each other through difficult times like brothers do. Blake loved food and was a great cook. Hhe loved cooking for his friends and family and was happy to see people enjoy his cooking. Every other post on his Facebook page was food related or recipes he wanted to try. Blake was also an avid online gamer where he enjoyed the opportunity to expand his friendships across the globe. He shared with people freely and openly so much so, that people sometimes would pay to have him travel across the country just to be able to meet him in person! Blake was a loving and passionate son, grandson, cousin, nephew and friend. Now that Blake’s spirit is free, we can all rest assured that he realizes how meaningful and purposeful his life on earth was. Despite his struggles, he knows how much he is loved and will always be loved and cherished. We can all find comfort and solace in knowing that his many friends and family feel truly blessed and lucky to have had such a genuine and inspirational young man in our lives. Some of us will always remember him as a toddler laughing and making “monkey lips.” Some of us will always remember him as a teenager trying to find his place in the world. Some of us will remember him as a skilled gamer always up for some “World of Magic” or “Animal Crossing.” Some of us will remember him as a young man with a strong passion for life and music, behind a set of drums rocking out to some “Black Dahlia Murder.” And it is because of all these unique and beautiful memories, that Blake will never be gone from us, because we will all keep his spirit alive in our hearts and in our memories. And please take comfort in knowing that each of those personal memories and experiences greatly enriched his life and know that Blake is carrying all of your love and carrying each of you with him. Though words cannot ever completely express our pain and sorrow, may you always treasure the wonderful times that you each shared with Blake. So while death may leave a heartache that no one can heal, love leaves a memory that no one can steal! May Blake’s spirit fly high and free like the mighty eagle. We all wish his spirit peace and happiness in his new journey of eternal love and light. Until we meet again, we will be loving you!
