Brenda Jacobs Hebert

New Iberia - Brenda Reed Jacobs Hebert, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 12 noon on January 26, 2024, at Pellerin Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at Antique Rose Ville.

Born on February 15, 1946 in New Orleans, Brenda was the daughter of Michel and Clara Jacobs and sister of Martha Jacobs Flanagin. She graduated from Alcée Fortier High School in 1963. She met Harold James “Jim” Hebert on a blind date in New Orleans and they wed six months later on August 30, 1967. Brenda and Jim made their home in New Iberia where they shared 56 years of marriage and raised four children.

Brenda is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Dr. Jim Hebert and their children Dr. Jay Hebert of Santa Cruz, California, Michelle Chustz of Lafayette, Courtney Phinney (Frank) of Zachary, Rebecca Hebert of Dallas and former daughter-in-law Beth Bravender Hebert of New Orleans. Brenda loved being a doting Mimi to her five grandchildren Destin Hebert, Elijah (Eli) Hebert, Gabriel (Gabe) Chustz, Graham Phinney and Jack Phinney. Her life was made richer by many cherished friends as well as pets Dickens, Jax and Finn.

In their heyday, Brenda and Jim loved entertaining at home on Main Street and annual trips to Florida with great friends every summer. Brenda loved gardening and her beautiful yard was the proof. Brenda was loving, funny, generous and caring. She had impeccable taste. From clothes to furniture, everything she touched was elegantly put together. Brenda loved shopping and was still perfecting her practice until the week she died, with boxes upon boxes of surprise purchases arriving to their house. She was a fabulous cook, the kind of cook who didn’t need a recipe and always knew how to make a dish perfect (most of the time the answer was butter). She loved preparing meals for her family — from special occasions to Sunday dinner — and her family loved gathering around her table.

The family extends their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from dear ones near and far. We especially thank her dedicated and compassionate caretakers Nicole Willis and Doris Willis, Hospice of Acadiana and her nurse Laura, Laci with Palliative Medicine of Acadiana, Acadiana Home Care of New Iberia, extended family Richard and Scotty Hebert, Paul and Carolyn Hebert, Mary Frances Hebert, Lori and Richard DeBlieux and countless friends who helped us navigate the last few months.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Brenda’s memory, to the Angel Paws Adoption Center, P.O. Box 11422, New Iberia, LA 70562.
