New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Carrie David Collins, 80, who died peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, following a brief illness with lung cancer, on Friday, May 18, 2018. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. A native of New Iberia, Carrie Catherine David Collins was born on September 29, 1937. She was a born go-getter, active in almost every facet of her school. She served in clubs like FBLA, Grit Staff, and Library Club, was an athlete (basketball, softball), a cheerleader, a lifeguard, voted Class Favorite, Homecoming queen (1952), and an honor graduate at New Iberia Senior High. Carrie received a scholarship to SLI (now UL), but did not complete her college education as she met and married the love of her life, William Collins in 1957. Together they had 4 children to whom Carrie happily devoted her life. She was a coach, a room-mother, and somehow never missed any ball games, track meets or tennis matches. And with three athletic sons, there were many to keep her busy! Always a trooper, Carrie raised her babies, worked at a bank and earned her honorary PHT (Put Him Through) from LSU while her husband attended law school. Carrie had a zest for life and loved people. She was the organizer for Holly Mart (the predecessor to Cajun Fun Fest) at Catholic High School for several years. She organized her NISH class reunions for many years. She was the bookkeeper for her husbands law office, and with her boundless energy, she renovated rent houses painting, maintaining and managing several at a time. She loved dancing, countless gatherings with friends and family, was an avid sports fan and sports trivia buff. Carrie was loving, kind, compassionate and humble. She had a great personality and loved to laugh. Her legacy is found in the absolute selfless love and adoration she had for her children. Carrie deeply loved her family and would often say, God was with me all my life. Mrs. Collins is survived by a daughter, Melissa Johnson and husband Dave of New Iberia; three sons, Lowell Collins and wife Renee of Broussard, Kempton Collins and wife Raquel of New Iberia, and Reed Collins and wife Ellen Segura Collins of New Iberia; seven grandchildren, Lauren Buteau and husband Raymond, William R.
