Cecelia "Mom" Soularie

Breaux Bridge- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, December 15, 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for Cecelia "Mom" Soulaire, 96, who passed away on December 6, 2023 at her residence.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Friday from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM.

A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 AM on Friday.

Rev. George Bede Ajuruchi, SSJ will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Lector will be Marie Celestine. 

Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery. 

Cecelia was born on April 18, 1927 in Lafayette. Mom was a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge. She faithfully attended Saturday mass and played Bingo in the Church hall afterwards, every Saturday. Mom was very faithful to God and said her Rosary everyday. She was a familiar face there, everyone knew her and looked forward to seeing her every week. Mom spent many years as a volunteer cook for various church functions. 

After she was retired, she attended events at Sydnie Mae Durand Senior Center, where she met her good friend Beth Stark. Mom was always the light of the party and enjoyed wearing her various hats. She enjoyed talking about her family and close friends. She cherished her family and looked forward to spending time with them every Sunday. She loved to make her family laugh with her many old stories that she would tell. It would be like a reunion for her and her family. 

Mom's home will always be remembered as the place her family would get together for laughter, great food, such as hot cush cush, coffee with the buttery cookies/donuts and that good ole homemade cooking.

Mom will always be remembered as a joy and fun person to be around, it was never a dull moment when you were around her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. 

She is survived by her daughters, Stella Soulaire Wiltz, Priscilla Potier (Dennis), Lucille Soularie and Mary Joyce Celestine (Lauris); grandchildren, Penny Edwards (Zachary), Tiffiny Lewis (Kenya), Kimberly Anderson (Tracey), Eleanor Francis (Lenneth), Brandy Harris (Sekou), Jason Potier (Nia), Thaddeus Williams (Lakendra) and Rhonda Wiltz (Frederick); great-grandchildren, Jada Edwards, Brianna Edwards, Zion Lewis, Lyrc Lewis, Zoe Williams, Taylor Anderson, Alexis Chapa Anderson, Langston Francis, Cullen Francis, Najah Harris, Imani Harris, Riley Harris, Jordan Potier, Jett Potier, Jya Potier, Caitlyn Wilson, Ian Wiltz and Briley Wiltz; great-great grandchild, I'lan Girod; godchild, Orelia Bernard; niece, Lada Pete; nephew, John Thomas; first cousin/best friend, Verna Mae Celestine; first cousin, Harry Francis; and Special Friend, Beth Starks.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Estella Wiltz Thomas; husband of 45 years, Wilfred Soularie; son-in-law, Chester Wiltz; sisters, Alice Solomon, Evelyn Bias, Marie Zenon, Matilda Batiste, and Mary Thomas Alexander; and her brothers, George Thomas, William Thomas, and Walter Thomas. 

Pallbearers will be Jason Potier, Langston Francis, Ian Wiltz, Cullen Francis, Jordan Potier, and Zion Lewis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Demouchette, John Davis, Thaddeus Williams, Zachary Edwards, Kenya Lewis, Lenneth Francis, Tracey Anderson, Frederick Wiltz, Clifton Soularie, Dennis Potier, Lauris Celestine and Sekou Harris.
