New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, in New Iberia for Cecil R. Dugas, Sr. 77, who died Saturday, December 15, 2007 in New Iberia, after a long battle with pulmonary disease.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum.
Rev. Richard Fabre will be the Celebrant.
A native of St. Mary Parish and a longtime resident of New Iberia, Cecil was an avid golfer and enjoyed duck hunting. It was his selfless devotion to his wife, daughter, and grandchildren that was the most remarkable. A proud veteran of the US Navy, he served on the USS Buck Destroyer. Cecil was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and a retiree of Halliburton, where he worked as a special tool supervisor.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Viltz Dugas of New Iberia; daughter, Denise Dugas-Dickerson and husband Sidney Dickerson, IV of New Iberia; granddaughter, Elizabeth Dickerson of New Iberia; step grandchildren, Jessica Daigle, Julie Reaux, Felicia Dickerson all of New Iberia; 4 step great grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Faniel and Mathilda Guidry Dugas; cousins, Bobby Higginbotham and Dora Shipp.
A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Monday. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM.
