New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia for Cecil Gauthier, 80, who died Friday, May 3, 2013, in Lafayette.
Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Monday. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
A native of Baton Rouge ; and a longtime resident of New Iberia, ; Mr. Gauthier was a 1952 graduate of Saint Peters College in New Iberia, ; excelling in football, track and boxing. ;
Mr. Gauthier was a veteran of the United States Army having honorably served his county during the Korean War as a Staff Sargent in a Heavy Mortar Company.
He retired from Texaco after 32 years of service but continued to work in the oilfield industry for a number of years afterward.
Mr. Gauthier, affectionately known as 'Uncle Cec' by many, was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed numerous hobbies including; wine making, working with leather, wood and stained glass.
He was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time and traveling with his loved ones. ; ; ;
Survivors include his wife June V. Gauthier of New Iberia; his daughters, Linda G. Thibodeaux and husband, Rick J. Thibodeaux of Broussard and Gwen G. Roseboom and husband, Kenneth W. Roseboom of Katy, Texas, and one son, Eric J. Gauthier and wife, Lisa M. Gauthier of Youngsville.
He is also survived by his sister, Sylvia G. Conrad of Baton Rouge; brothers, Dewey 'Potchey' Gauthier and wife Carolyn of Youngsville, and Carroll Gauthier of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Grandchildren include Matthew W. Thibodeaux and wife Lauren of Houston, Texas, Petty Officer First Class Aimee G. Jones and husband Chief Petty Officer William C. Jones of Honolulu, Hawaii, David E. Roseboom of Austin, Texas, Rachael R. Thibodeaux of Lafayette, Rebecca K. Roseboom of Katy, Texas and a Great grandson, Baylen C. Jones of Honolulu, Hawaii.
He is also survived by a host of other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Jacqueline Hymel Gauthier; parents, Cleophine Couvillon Gauthier and Dewey Louis Gauthier; and his brother Albert Emile Gauthier.
Pallbearers will be Eric Gauthier, Rick Thibodeaux, Matthew Thibodeaux, Ken Roseboom, David Roseboom and Chief Petty Officer William Jones.
